The “Cult-like” culture is alive and well in Silicon Valley. Examples of ‘Fervently held ideology’ can be seen in the initial interview processes as large successful corporations seek employees that have already researched the company’s core values prior to stepping foot into the interview room. ‘Indoctrination’ is expected. If a position is secured, here in Silicon Valley, it would be unusual not to participate in an orientation program for a minimum of 3 days. We would be weary if the company did not impose such a requirement. ‘Tightness of fit’ is a requirement. This is measured from the time you enter the interview process to the duration of your stay with the company. When you begin to veer from company culture, the company begins to veer from your interests. The profound ‘Elitism’ dictated by the large company’s creates a pride in the company along with a sense of entitlement that may come with the company’s reputation.
